The Get Lit! Festival Author Reception was held Friday April 12th, 2013 at the Red Lion Hotel at the Park. This event was a part of Eastern Washington University’s annual Get Lit! Literary Festival. Get Lit!, established in 1998 as a small literary festival, has grown to national prominence and attracts an audience of over 10,000 people from Spokane and the region.
The Author Reception is a chance for local and visiting authors and poets to mix and mingle with festival sponsors, EWU faculty and administration. The presence of Dr. Rodolfo Arévalo, Eastern Washington University’s 25th President, at this event shows the level of engagement and involvement EWU has for this festival.
It’s a continuing indication of the university’s commitment to the community. It’s really a community project and event that brings famous writers to Spokane. It does provide greater visibility for the institution. It’s a way for us to indicate to the community that we are very much involved in what goes on in Spokane. (Dr. Rodolfo Arévalo)
Authors in attendance included Emily Danforth, Jonathan Evision and Spokane’s very own Jess Walter. His latest work, a collection of stories, is titled We Live in Water. Walter, an EWU alum, has written eight books and was the winner of the 2005 Edgar Allan Poe Award for best novel for his work Citizen Vince.
